SAINT JOSEPH'S MISSION - EAST NASHVILLE, TN
Website
Pastor: Matt Bridge
We are learning what it means to be the people of God by building a community focused on growing closer to God, individually and corporately, learning to love each other and our neighbor through practical service, and keeping brotherly accountability on the motives and conditions of our hearts, in the most mundane to elaborate acts of our lives. That is church to me. The Sunday service is only providing another opportunity to worship together, pray, dream, encourage, serve and build another door for new brothers and sisters to be welcomed into our community.
More then anything we want to experience the abundant life and to see God’s leadership, justice, economics and adoptive family that has no racial or national lines here on earth.
I believe we have been allowed to participate in this new family through humble service to one another, by sharing food and growing food, by loving the rejected and forgotten, through hospitality to new and old friends, by writing songs and singing songs, through working and praying together, by supporting each others’ creativity, through agreeing and disagreeing, by failing and still continuing the journey, and dreaming and dreaming and dreaming, and by knowing God has more.
We are dissatisfied with the condition of our mother, the universal Church, and aim to revive her broken state by not only knowing the gospel, but also living it through the grace of God. We believe faith without work is dead, and we believe our hands have grown restless. We want more. We want something real; something bigger than us that is worthy to be called the body of Christ. We cannot accomplish this through any one act, but through a life of doing small things with great love; the love that only a connection to Christ can offer.
We are a part of a larger community called the Anchor Mission USA, which understands people come from many different backgrounds and church traditions. At the same time that we guard the essentials of our Christian faith we also understands the essential calling for the church to be unified and we seek to overcome the walls that divide us while celebrating diverse and creative church traditions that ultimately point us to Christ.
